RALPH STANLEY

RALPH STANLEY: DISTANT LAND TO ROAM

One-hour music-intensive documentary features bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley, and how his life and music have been inspired by the Carter Family and their songs.

Before a long career in bluegrass and old-time mountain music, Ralph Stanley was a young man inspired by the Carter Family’s radio broadcasts to make his own music. Now, 70 years later, he salutes them with his new album, A Distant Land to Roam – a collection of his favorite Carter Family songs.

Carlene Carter guides us through this history of both Ralph Stanley her own family.   John Carter Cash, writer Billy Altman, and Aaron Davis (Executive Director of the Ralph Stanley Museum) also provide comments between Ralph Stanley’s new versions of these classic Carter Family songs.
